Causes of Aging - How do we Age?

March 28th, 2008 · No Comments

The study of aging is called “gerontology”. There are mainly 2 theories on the subject of aging. According to first theory the aging is a natural process while the other theory says that aging is due to the damages done to the body and its various important systems.

According to the first theory the aging process is programmed in the genes of every person and these genes express themselves with the passage of time. When some specific genes become active, then aging process is started. Also various hormones are responsible for the process of aging. With the increase in the life, certain hormone’s production is reduced naturally, which enhances the aging process. Also with the passage of time the defense system of human body becomes weaker and the environmental factors greatly affect the humans. These all natural factors enhance the aging process.

According to other theories, also called error theories, the environmental damages are responsible for the aging process. The damages are done on the continuous basis. Damages include the wearing out of body tissues. Also intake of more oxygen decreases the life of an organism. The list of all the environmental factors, that affect the aging process, is very long.
