Hormone theory, also called the endocrine theory of aging, says that the hormones produced by the endocrine system in the body play the most important role in the aging process.
The most complex processes of human body are controlled by the hormones which are produced by the endocrine system. With the increase in the age the endocrine system becomes weak and production of important hormones is decreased due to which the overall functions of the human body are affected. These all factors increase the effects of aging process.
Some studies were done to prove this theory. In mice, the pituitary glands were removed. These glands are very important and are the main component of the endocrine system. After removing the pituitary glands, the mice were given the supplements to overcome the deficiency of pituitary hormones. It was seen that the mice without pituitary glands lived longer then other mice. It was concluded the pituitary glands are also responsible to produce some more secretions that affects the aging process.
Some researchers believe that administration of supplements of hormones may decrease the aging process after increasing the blood level of these hormones. This concept is not true. Aging is a normal process and the decrease in the hormone production with the passage of time is also a normal and natural process. The supplements of hormones usually increase the blood hormone level which may lead to some other problems and diseases.
