Avoiding a relapse in your smoking habit

December 18th, 2007 · No Comments

Most people who quit tend to fall back to their old habits just as fast or faster. The reason for a relapse is quite simply a situation where one tends to feel self-pity for what he has put his body through when he was quitting.  Losing self perspective and trying to find a means to satisfy him or reward him for the process he has been through and so on.

Whatever the reason, relapsing is quite common among quitters. There are a lot of ways one could reverse this but this comes with a price. It means that you have to work towards it. Some people tend to stay away from smoking for a long time and suddenly revert back to the habit. This is peculiar but understandable given that our mind works the way we want it to work. So trying to negate those thoughts of smoking and focusing them on trying to get used to a smoke free life can be as rewarding for your body and your mind as well as to your quit smoking program.

The process is time consuming and can drain out a lot of your resources mental and physical but it is worth trying when you realize that the end of the road means a few more years of health added to your lifespan and living a comfortable, illness free life. It takes a lot of patience and time to overcome a habit that was built over a period of time but being single minded about it and working through it can give you the best results. When you pick up that next cigarette remember that if you want to quit again you will be putting your body through the rigors of the initial withdrawal effects all over again and that could be a stage that you could avoid if you just made sure that you stuck to your resolve now.

While quitting is tough, staying smoke free also needs a lot of work and it does not end after a period of time. Maybe the cravings diminish with time but the chances of relapse are always looming large at any time so the process is an ever continuing one. The whole thing depends on how strong your urge to quit and stay away from smoking is and what measures you is taking to change your attitude and your approach to this problem.
