Fighting to rid the youth and teens from smoking

December 18th, 2007 · No Comments

There is no better saying than “prevention is better than cure “when it comes to health concerns. If you are a parent battling this addiction for your child it is not too late. There are a lot of tobacco companies that promote cigarette smoking and make it look appealing and cool to the youth. This also gives them a feeling that they are grownup. It is never too early to start talking to your child about the hazards of smoking.

With increasing tobacco use in the youth, there is also an increase in the awareness of the community about the need to combat this systematically. There are a number of resources available to a teenager, parent or the family and friends of a teenager who smokes.

Resources can come in the form of government policies, youth camps for quitting smoking. When the government works to bring in some legislation in their anti-smoking bids, the tobacco companies, that lose, end up paying phenomenal amounts of money to them. Most of the states do not make use of this money to help fight this addiction but instead use it for other issues that the state might be facing.

Government in some states uses these funds to help form organizations or groups that work towards a smoke free state. Tobacco is a leading cause of major health issues and each year the government spends enormous amounts of money trying to treat lung problems, heart disease, emphysema and COPD all caused due to smoking. This will reduce the incidence of medical resources that the state and the country is pumping into treating tobacco related diseases and at the same time make the atmosphere and the children healthy.

Let your local government know that you support their bid for a smoke free environment and if there is a support group that is working towards this then it might be good to pitch in. Apart from these there are organized youth camps and teenage camps that concentrate on ridding one of the smoking addictions. Sending your child to these camps may be beneficial and make them understand the need to quit this habit. Whatever the method you choose it should be one that works for you and solves the issue at hand. Moreover it is never too early to start talking to your children about the hazards of smoking, for them and for those around them.
