Laser therapy and its uses to quit smoking

December 18th, 2007 · No Comments

Smoking is a highly addictive habit and trying to quit can be difficult if you do not understand the kind of changes that occur in your body when you start and try to stop smoking. To have a good success rate in smoking it is good to try and understand what happens to your body when you expose it to nicotine and how the addiction can be hard to break.

When a person smokes the body becomes physically and psychologically addicted to nicotine and craves for it. The more you smoke the more the severity of the withdrawal symptoms when you are trying to quit. Withdrawal symptoms can be both physical and mental. Some of the most common symptoms of withdrawal are nausea, dizziness, insomnia, irritability, depression, loss of appetite and fatigue.

One of the latest techniques that have been introduced in helping one quit smoking is laser therapy. Laser therapy follows the basic principles of acupuncture but instead uses laser beams at pressure points or trigger points in the body. Low level laser beams are applied at pressure points in the body to promote the release of endorphins. Endorphins are natural chemicals that the body releases to alleviate stress and promote energy.

This method of treatment is still under trials with the help of patient participation but the use of low level laser beams has been approved by the FDA as non-significant risk devices. The treatment is also being tested in its use for weight loss.
